The Los Angeles Chargers have reportedly released Pro Bowl pass rusher Joey Bosa, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday (March 5) night.

Bosa, 29, who spent his entire nine-year career with the franchise, was reportedly informed of the team's decision.

"The #Chargers have informed star pass-rusher Joey Bosa that he’s being released. One of the best Chargers ever," Rapoport wrote on his X account.

The Chargers appeared to confirm Bosa's release, sharing a montage of clips featuring the pass rusher with the caption "for all the mems."

Bosa was due a $12.36 million roster bonus if he remained on the Chargers' roster as of next Wednesday (March 12), which reportedly led to the team's decision, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

"Joey Bosa had a $12.36 million roster bonus due next Wednesday — an early trigger as part of a restructure last year, forcing the #Chargers to make a decision before free agency. Now his release gives him a jump start on the market," Pelissero wrote on his X account.

Bosa recorded 22 tackles, five sacks, five tackles for loss, 13 QB hits and two forced fumbles while making nine starts and appearing in 14 games during the 2024 NFL season.
