Turkey Smashes Through Window In California Dentist's Office

A wild turkey caused serious damage to a dentist's office in California. The turkey broke through a glass window, startling the office's manager, Donna McDonald, who was the only person inside.

McDonald heard the commotion and was shocked to find the massive bird thrashing around in the waiting room.

"It clawed up multiple walls to where we're gonna have to repaint in there. Some of the glass that came in cut the dental chairs … and we'll need some deep cleaning," McDonald told the Sacramento Bee.

She told the paper that the bird was so large and aggressive, it gave the animal control officer a hard time as she tried to capture it.

"There was no wrangling this bird as an amateur. The wildlife lady kind of struggled with it," McDonald said.

Eventually, the wild turkey was captured and taken to the Gold Country Wildlife Rescue, where it is recovering. Greg Grimm, treasurer of Gold Country Wildlife Rescue, told the KMAX that the turkey likely saw its own reflection in the window and attacked it, thinking it was a rival.

"Now the other thing that birds sometimes do when they see windows is that they see their reflection in the window, and especially if it's during mating season, they may think it's a competitor for their mate," Grimm said.
