Nirenberg: Troubled By State's Decision On School Openings

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg is not happy with the state's position on schools reopening this fall.

Earlier today, the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, House Speaker and chairs of the House and Senate Education Committees issued a joint-statement clarifying the state's position. The state said the authority to decide how schools will safely open this year, lies with local school boards and not local health authorities.

Nirenberg says he is troubled by that decision, saying the state is making a mistake by not putting science and evidence-based protocols at the forefront in making what he called "crucial decisions on dealing with COVID-19."
