Fire Truck Thief Hits Scooter Rider, Crashes Out

It's happened again.

San Antonio Fire and EMS crews were helping a patient downtown this morning when a car thief jumped behind the wheel of the pickup truck and hit the gas.

Fire Spokesman Joe Arrington tells Newsradio 1200 WOAI that the thief tried to mow down a scooter rider, who had to be treated for an arm injury.

Each Fire Department vehicle is equipped with GPS, and Police crews followed the stolen pickup as the driver sped up I-35 at speeds around 100 miles and hour.

That driver eventually wrecked out on I-35 near the forum.  He's in custody.

In August, a different car thief stolen and ambulance and wrecked on I-10 on the northwest side.
