Reba McEntire marked “the beginning of some new music,” while simultaneously honoring her five-decade career in country music.
McEntire, 71, released a 5-track EP on Friday (April 17). The collection includes the title track, “One Night In Tulsa,” which she performed for the first time earlier this month during a special performance at Reba's Place, the restaurant she opened in Atoka, Oklahoma. She went on to tease the heartfelt ballad — written by Neal Coty, Kylie Frey and Thom McHugh — on social media before its release. The song “marks a return to the ’90s country ballads that cemented McEntire’s place as one of the genre’s most definitive voices of heartbreak,” states a press release issyed earlier this week.
One Night In Tulsa also features duets with Vince Gill and Brooks & Dunn star Ronnie Dunn. The EP includes “Tulsa Time” (written by Danny Flowers), “Oklahoma Swing” (written by Gill and Tim DuBois), “Does The Wind Still Blow In Oklahoma” (written by McEntire and Dunn), and “No U In Oklahoma” (written by McEntire, Dunn and Donna McSpadden). McEntire, who is looking ahead to life with a new grandchild in addition to a new chapter in her career, will celebrate her 50-year career by releasing “music capsules each month, thematically curated songs from throughout her career paired with brand new recordings that spotlight the road ahead for the iconic entertainer,” states a press release issued Wednesday (April 15).
