San Antonio may be on the way to its deadliest year in a decade, in terms of the number of homicides in the city. Police department crime statistics released on Tuesday show that there were 74 homicides in the first six months of 2021, which is more than any other year since 2011. But while murders are up, the overall violent crime rate is at its lowest since 2015. The death of a 15-year-old killed by a stray bullet on Tuesday morning lifts this year's homicide total to 87.
