Former Fort Worth Cop Who Shot Woman In Her Home Charged With Murder

Aaron Dean

Aaron Dean, the former Fort Worth police officer accused of fatally shooting a 28-year-old woman through the window of her own home, has been charged with murder. Dean resigned from the force hours before he was charged.

Atatiana Jefferson was playing video games with her eight-year-old nephew when Dean and another officer responded to a non-emergency call from her neighbor, who noticed that her front door was open. When Jefferson heard noises outside, she went to the window to check out the sound.

When Dean saw Jefferson standing inside the house, he ordered her to put her hands up. Before giving her a chance to respond, he fired a single, fatal shot through the window. He did not identify himself as a police officer before opening fire.

"He did get what I wanted him to get, and this is only the start," Adarius Carr, Jefferson's brother, told CNN. "There's no way this is enough. We know this is a good step in the direction where we want to go, but it's definitely not the end."

Dean was released on a $200,000 bond.
